BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,13TH MARCH,2021-The Ministry of Health has confirmed 870 new cases of coronavirus in the country in the last 24 hours.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement on Saturday that the new cases were picked from a sample size of 6,309.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 112,805.
The youngest patient is a three-month-old baby and the oldest is 99.
The CS said that 117 more people have recovered from the virus, 75 from various health facilities while 42 are from the home based and isolation care.
The total number of recoveries in the country stands at 88,326.
Kagwe said that the country has also lost seven patients to the virus, bringing the number of fatalities to 1,908.
A total of 650 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,929 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.
98 patients are in ICU, 25 of whom are on ventilatory support and 60 on supplemental oxygen. 13 patients are on observation.
Another 25 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, with 23 of them in the general wards and two in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
On the ongoing vaccination exercise, a total of 9,144 frontline workers have been vaccinated in 40 Counties since the exercise was launched.
In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 431, Nakuru 120, Kiambu 95, Machakos 53, Turkana 29, Kajiado 26, Mombasa 15, Kisumu 10, Bungoma and Meru nine, Isiolo eight.
Others are Embu and Kilifi with six each, Murang’a, Nyandarua and Trans Nzoia with five each, Laikipia and Nyeri with four each while Uasin Gishu and Vihiga have three cases each.
Baringo, Kericho, Kitui, Mandera, Nandi and Narok have two cases each, while Elgeyo Marakwet, Garissa, Kakamega, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River and Tharaka Nithi have one case each
