181 people tests positive for the virus as 88 recovers

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,27TH FEB,2021-The Ministry of Health has said that 181 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in the country in the last 24 hours.

According to the statement from the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe released on Saturday, the new cases were picked from a sample size of 5,577.

The total number of confirmed cases is 105,648  while the cumulative tests conducted are 1,295,556.

The CS said that from the new cases, 159 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners and that 112 are males and 69 are females.

The youngest is a two-month-old infant and the oldest is 86.

From the new cases, Nairobi has  104 cases, Kiambu 20, Busia 11, Nakuru 9, Kisumu 5, Mombasa 5, and Machakos 5.

Taita Taveta 4, Turkana 4, Embu 2, Kajiado 2, Kakamega 2, Kilifi 1, Makueni 1, Meru 1, Migori 1, Murang’a 1, Nyeri 1, Bungoma 1 and Uasin Gishu 1.

Also, one patient has succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 1,854.

The CS said that 88 patients have recovered from the disease, 46 from various health facilities, while 42 are from the Home-Based and Isolation Care.

The total recoveries are now 86,609.

Kagwe said that 347 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,430 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Fifty-nine patients are in the ICU, 25 of whom are on ventilatory support and 29 on supplemental oxygen. Also, five patients are on observation.

Additionally, fifteen patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 14 of them in the general wards and One in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
