BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,4TH FEB,2021– Ministry of Health on Thursday announced that 180 people tested positive for COVID-19 out of a sample size of 4,580 tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total confirmed infections to 101,339.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman, addressing the press on World Cancer Day, said 83 patients recovered from the coronavirus; 53 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care while 30 were discharged from various health facilities, taking total recoveries to 84,143.
CAS Aman however noted that 4 patients succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 1,773.
From the 180 cases, 145 are Kenyans while 35 are foreigners; 100 are males while 80 are females and the youngest is a two-year-old baby while the oldest is 88.
The cases were recorded across various counties as follows: Nairobi 99, Kiambu 33, Nakuru 8, Kajiado 7, Kisumu 6, Uasin Gishu 5, Mombasa 4, Taita Taveta 4, Nandi 3, Nyeri 3, Meru 2, Busia 1, Kakamega 1, Kericho 1, Kilifi 1, Kwale 1 and Machakos 1.
The 99 cases in Nairobi are from Westlands (16), Lang’ata (14), Kibra (13), Dagoretti North (11), Kamukunji (9), Starehe (8), Ruaraka (5), Embakasi East (4), Kasarani, Makadara and Roysambu (3) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North, Embakasi South and Mathare (2) cases each, Embakasi Central and Embakasi West (1) case each.
In Kiambu, the 33 cases are from Ruiru (9), Kiambaa (6), Kikuyu and Lari (4) cases each, Kiambu Town and Thika (3) cases each, Kabete (2), Gatundu South and Juba (1) case each.
In Nakuru, the 8 cases are from Nakuru East (5), Naivasha (2) and Nakuru West (1). In Kajiado, the 7 cases are from Kajiado North (5) and Loitokitok (2). In Kisumu, all the 6 cases are from Kisumu Central.
In Uasin Gishu, all the 5 cases are from Ainabkoi. In Mombasa, the 4 cases are from Mvita (3) and Nyali (1) while the 4 cases in Taita Taveta are all from Taveta.
In Nandi, all the 3 cases are from Emgwen while the 3 cases in Nyeri are from Mathira East, Mukurweini and Nyeri Central (1) case each. In Meru the 2 cases are all from Igembe Central.
The case in Busia is from Matayos, the case in Kakamega is from Lurambi, the case in Kericho is from Ainamoi, the case in Kilifi is from Kaloleni, the case in Kwale is from Lunga Lunga and the case in Machakos is from Athi River.
