BY UPESI REPORTER,NAIROBI,28TH JAN,2021-A group of rowdy youth caused a commotion at Deputy President William Ruto’s rally in Burma Market, Nairobi, on Thursday January 28, 2021.
The incident came a few days after ODM leader Raila Odinga was booed by a group or rowdy youth when he visited the market and took time to drum up support for Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
DP Ruto addressed the residents noting that the Jubilee government had been working on a plan to create jobs and improve lives before it was corrupted by the BBI wave.
A group of youths interrupted DP Ruto’s speech forcing him to cut short the address.
Ruto and Odinga have been trading burbs on the campaign trail with Raila accusing the DP of making false promises and providing simplistic solutions to unemployed Kenyans by offering wheelbarrows.
“They promised you 1 million jobs. By now you should have 8 million jobs…have you seen them?” asked Odinga during his tour of Githurai area.
In a quick rejoinder, Ruto dismissed Odinga’s comments saying they did not mean anything to Kenyans.
“We are smarter than them. All they talk about are hustlers and wheelbarrows. They now understand that Kenyans are woke and are tired of cheap politics,” Ruto stated.
Odinga’s roadside rally on Wednesday January 27 was also disrupted by an angry mob chanting DP Ruto’s name.
Just hours later, the DP would get equal treatment with Raila’s supporters shouting him down as they chanted BBI slogans.
National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has been pushing for tolerance and restrain during campaigns, and recently cautioned media houses against using ‘Hustler’ and ‘Dynasty’ slogans in their publications as they are likely to fuel animosity and division.
