BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,30TH DEC 2020-The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued an apology over a tweet that had sensationally termed the BBI as the “Burning Bridges Initiative”.

The commission acknowledged the embarrassing mistake, noting that it had been a ‘typographic error that was made inadvertently’

“The error does NOT any in way reflect the position of the Commission or its staff, the Commission sincerely apologizes to all its stakeholders and the Public,” the tweet read in part.

The controversial tweet had announced the launch of the BBI signature verification process at the Bomas Of Kenya, albeit erroneously.

“Happening now: The launch of the Burning Bridges Initiative Supporters Verification Exercise at the Bomas of Kenya” the tweet which has since been deleted read.

The tweet elicited mixed partisan discussions on Kenyan social media platforms with a good number calling for the resignation of the tweet’s author.

Early Wednesday, the commission launched the verification of the BBI signatures saying that the 400 clerks hired for the drive had taken their vow of secrecy and would begin their one-day training immediately after.

The clerks will be paid Ksh.1,200 per day in the exercise that will be expected to cost at least Ksh.480,000 per day.
