BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,30TH DEC 2020-The Ministry of Health in a statement on Wednesday, announced 112 new COVID-19 infections, tested from a sample size of 3,327.
The new infections, the statement said, push the total number of confirmed cases in the country so far to 96,252 and the total number of samples to 1,041,679.
From the cases,98 are Kenyans while 14 are foreigners; 69 are male while 43 are female.
The youngest patient is a 3-year-old child while the oldest is 84.
Distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 53, Mombasa 23, Kakamega 7, Bungoma 7, Kilifi 7, Kajiado 2, Lamu 2, Kisumu 2, Busia 2, Nyeri 1, Siaya 1, Kwale 1, Machakos 1, Nakuru 1, Kiambu 1 and Uasin Gishu 1.
In terms of Sub County Distribution; In Nairobi, the 53 cases are from Lang’ata (9), Embakasi Central, Kibra and Westlands (5) cases each, Dagoretti North (4), Embakasi West, Kamukunji, Makadara and Roysambu (3) cases each, Embakasi East, Embakasi North, Kasarani, Mathare and Starehe (2) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi South and Ruaraka (1) case each.
In Mombasa, the 23 cases are from Mvita (19), Changamwe Kisauni, Likoni and Nyali (1) case each. In Kakamega, the 7 cases are from Lurambi (4) and Mumias West (3). In Bungoma, all the 7 cases are from Kanduyi, while in Kilifi, the 7 cases are from Kilifi North (6) and Kaloleni (1).
The 2 cases in Kajiado, are from Kajiado North and Loitokitok (1) case each, all the 2 cases in Lamu, are from Lamu West, all the 2 cases in Kisumu, are from Kisumu Central, and all the 2 cases in Busia, are from Teso North.
The case in Nyeri, is from Mathira East, the case in Siaya, is from Rarieda, the case in Kwale, is from Msambweni, the case in Machakos, is from Machakos Town, the case in Nakuru, is from Nakuru East, the case in Kiambu, is from Kikuyu and the case in Uasin Gishu is from Kesses.
The Ministry of Health also announced 816 new recoveries; 798 being from the Home-Based Care Program, while 18 were discharged from various hospitals.
The total recoveries now stand at 78,475.
The total number of fatalities has risen to 1,667 after two patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
