BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,7TH DEC 2020-Kenya on Monday reported 199 new cases on Covid-19 bringing the country’s total caseload to 88,579.
This was from a sample size of 2,416 tests that were done in the last 24 hours representing an eight per cent positivity rate.
A statement from the Ministry indicated that cumulative tests now stand at 934,215 since the first case was reported in the country in March.
According to the statement, of the new cases, 177 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners.
In terms of gender 123 are males while 76 are females with the youngest being a three-year-old baby and the oldest 90 years.
Nairobi county leads with 77 new cases followed by Mombasa with 21 cases, Busia with 20 cases, Uasin Gishu 19 cases, Meru 11 cases, Kiambu 9 cases and West Pokot and Kilifi counties each with seven cases.
While Turkana has 5 cases, Laikipia, Narok and Kajiado counties each has four cases, Murang’a with three cases, Kakamega with two cases and Nakuru, Kisumu, Embu, Machakos, Siaya and Kwale counties with one case each.
Five more patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of fatalities to 1,531.
There are 1,171 patients admitted in various health facilities across the country and 8,127 on Home-Based Isolation and care.
Some 83 patients ate in ICU of whom 40 are on ventilatory support and 42 on supplemental oxygen.
One other patient is under observation.
“Another 70 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 62 are in general wards,” the statement read.
Some other eight patients are in the High Dependency Unit.
