17 more people dead as Kenya records 727 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,24TH NOV,2020-Seventeen more patients have succumbed to COVID-19 in Kenya bringing the death toll from the disease to 1,409.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Health Ministry CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi also announced that 727 other people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 4,913 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 78,512 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country.

“The cumulative tests are now 848,016.  From the cases 705 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners,” said Dr. Mwangangi.

At the same time, 806 patients have recovered from the disease, 701 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 105 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total recoveries now stand at 52,709.

The 727 new cases are distributed across the counties as follows; Nairobi 306, Kiambu 122, Kitui 38, Uasin Gishu 33, Kajiado 27, Machakos 25, Muranga 22, Busia 21, Mombasa 19, Garissa 17, Turkana 17, Kisumu 14, Kilifi 13, Nyeri 8, Nakuru 7, Kirinyaga 6, Kwale 6, Baringo 5, Embu 4, West Pokot 4 Siaya 4, Isiolo 3, Kisii 3, Makueni 2 and Mandera 1.

Currently, there are 1,196 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 7,139 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 51 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 18 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 106 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 94 are in the general wards while 12 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
