BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,16TH NOV 2020-Liverpool reportedly turned down the chance to sign defender Kalidou Koulibaly during the summer transfer window after baulking at Napoli’s asking price.

The Reds are in desperate need of a new centre-back after losing Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries, leaving Joel Matip as the only senior player available in that position.

However, transfer expert Ian McGarry has claimed that Liverpool could have had Koulibaly as part of their squad for the 2020-21 campaign as Napoli were willing to sell him in August.

Speaking on The Transfer Window podcast, McGarry suggested that the Italian side were after around €60m (£53.87m) for the Senegal international, which the Premier League champions were unwilling to pay.

Liverpool are expected to delve into the market when it reopens in January, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez emerging as a surprise option.
