BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,2ND NOV 2020-Council of Governors led by Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya now want President Uhuru Kenyatta to introduce lock down amid increasing number of Covid-19.

In a memorandum to be presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, November 4, the governors further want President Uhuru to close bars and restaurants as well as ban political rallies.

The governors also want President Kenyatta to shift the curfew to start from 5am – 7pm with Oparanya warning that the situation is likely to get out of control if the State does not act swiftly.

“These are some of the issues we shall present during our discussion with the President and senior health officials on Wednesday. Kenyans have dropped their guard thinking that we are out of the woods,” Oparanya said during his last press conference.

According to the Council of Governors, the spike in the Covid-19 is as a result of increased activities in social places.

President Uhuru on Sunday, November 1, while speaking at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, expressed his concern with the recent spike in coronavirus cases admitting that he was considering locking down the country again.

“We are going through that difficult time where we are now wondering what to do. Do we close up? We shall be coming back to that.”

“We don’t have to close if only people would observe and would be caring for their fellow citizens. It is possible to keep Covid-19 at bay and lead a normal life,” Uhuru said.

The Health ministry has also cautioned that the government may be forced to impose tougher restriction measures come Wednesday.

“We already have several options on the table and anything is possible as long as it is in the best interest of the country,” said Acting Director-General, Dr. Patrick Amoth.
