COVID19 UPDATE:16 more die as Kenya’s virus caseload now hits 46,144

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,21ST  OCT 2020-Kenya’s virus fatality rate has risen to 858 with 16 more deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

This is as the country recorded 497 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total caseload to 46,144.

This was from a sample of 4,888 tested in the last 24 hours.

The number of patients on supplemental oxygen in the ICU has risen to 41 in the last 24 hours.

At least 27 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Ministry of Health in a statement on Wednesday confirmed the majority of the new cases were Kenyans while 26 were foreigners.

Cumulative tests conducted so far stand at  632,669.

From the  cases, 295 are males and 202 females while the youngest is a one-year-old child and the oldest is 88 years.

Meanwhile, 238 patients have been discharged after successful recoveries raising the country’s recovery total to 32,760.

Out of this, 170 were discharged from the home-based care programme, while 68 were from various health facilities.

A total of 1,189 people are currently admitted in various hospitals while some 2,661 patients are on home-based care programme.

Distribution of the cases  by counties is as follows;  Nairobi 227, Machakos 64, Mombasa 51, Uasin Gishu 37, Laikipia 28, Busia 19, Kajiado 11, Embu 10, Nakuru 9, Wajir 7, Kiambu and Kilifi 6 cases each.

Kisumu had 4 cases, Nyeri 4, Makueni 3, while Elgeiyo Marakwet, Meru, Kisii, and Turkana had 2 cases each, Narok, Homabay and Kakamega had 1 case each.
