8 more deaths recorded as COVID19 Cases hit 39,586

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,6TH OCT 2020-Kenya on Tuesday recorded 137 new Covid-19 cases bringing the country’s total caseload to 39,586.

This was from a sample of 1,258 tested in the last 24 hours, raising cumulative tests done so far to 566,536.

Health CAS Rashid Aman confirmed the majority of the new patients are Kenyans.

The youngest is a one-year-old infant while the oldest is 81 years. Out of the new cases, 94 are males while 43 are females.

The CS said that 296 patients have been discharged after successful recovery, raising the country’s recovery total to 27,331.

Out of this, 228 were discharged from the home-based care programme, while 68 were from various health facilities.

Sadly, eight more patients succumbed to the disease, bringing the country’s fatalities to 743.

Nairobi continues to lead in daily positives recording 64 cases in 24 hours.

A total of 35 out of the 64 cases in Nairobi are from prisoners from Nairobi Remand prison – which is 55 per cent.

This has led the ministry to order that Nairobi remand prison will not receive any new remandees.

Turkana county came second in terms of the number of cases with 34 out of which 33 were from Kakuma Refugee camp.

Other counties with cases include Mombasa with (12), Kiambu (8), Uasin Gishu (6), Trans Nzoia (4) while, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Kajiado, Laikipia, Machakos, meru, and Tharaka Nithi had one case each.
