BY UPESI REPORTER,NAIROBI,19TH SEPT,2020-The Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) has announced a raft of new measures to ensure effective service delivery at the Pumwani Hospital, Mbagathi Hospital, Mama Lucy Hospital and Mutuini Hospital in Dagoretti.
In a statement by NMS Director of Health Services Dr. Josephine Kibaru Mbae, officers from the National Police Service will augment the provision of security at these facilities.
The new changes come just days after a video recorded on September 13 emerged showing a woman delivering outside the Pumwani Hospital gate.
Reliable sources indicate that the woman had been turned away by the guards at the gate, following a disruption of services at the facility by nurses who were on a go slow.
Consequently, security team at the facility has been changed, with NMS saying that a customer service desk has also been set up.
The incident sparked outrage online with Kenyans calling out the facility for the alleged negligence.
NMS however says that the woman in question was assisted by a nurse at the facility and got admitted at the facility.
“The Security Guard denied the patient access to the premises in a very unfortunate incident, before a Nurse from the Maternity Ward was notified of the occurrence and rushed to the scene to assist in the Delivery and admission to the Maternity War,” the statement says.
Further, the statement says the woman and her child are in fine health and were discharged from the facility on Friday.
