Sudi’s cross:The Kapseret law maker to spend two more days in custody

BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,14TH SEPT,2020-Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has been detained for two more days pending a bail ruling in a case where he is accused of hate speech and incitement.

Sudi was on Monday presented at the Nakuru Law Courts where the prosecution filed an application to detain him for 14 days pending completion of investigations into the matter.

According to an affidavit filed in court by the prosecution, the Kapseret MP is facing accusations of hate speech, assault of a police officer, offensive conduct, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and resisting arrest.

The prosecution submitted that they need more time to trace and interview several witnesses they intend to use in the case.

The  court was further told that investigations will entail extraction and analysis by the D.C.I. Forensic Lab of the video clip containing several speeches made by Sudi on September 7, 2020 when he made the controversial remarks that led to his arrest.

The remarks were termed as abusive towards President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family.

Nakuru Chief Magistrate Josephat Kalo will rule on the prosecution’s application on Wednesday, September 16.

The Magistrate directed the MP be detained at the Nakuru Police Station.

Sudi’s defense team led by Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei and Senator Kipchumba Murkomen have opposed the prosecution’s push to detain the lawmaker
