BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,11TH SEPT,2020-The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has launched a mobile application in its quest to ease compliance by taxpayers.
Dubbed the KRA-M-Service App, the application will enable taxpayers to access various services including registration, verification, filing of returns and the payment of tax.
The system is expected to widen the tax man’s reach and increase revenue collection by making tax payment processes more efficient.
Taxpayers will further have the opportunity to validate KRA employees through a functionality on the application which seeks to sever the exposure of Kenyans to imposters and fraudsters.
KRA is betting on the innovation to expand the tax base by onboarding the broad informal sector.
The introduction of the service further enhances remote operations while anchoring a platform to address e-commerce transactions.
The launch of the mobile application presents ongoing efforts by the tax man to lessen the burden of compliance on the taxpayer by leveraging digital solutions.
The Authority is tasked with the collection of Ksh.1.63 trillion in ordinary revenues through the financial year to June 2021.
The tax man however faces adversities in hitting the target including a lowered tax base arising from the disruption arising from the COVID-19 pandemic which has seen millions lose their livelihoods while recent tax relief measures have lowered collections from tax heads such as VAT and corporation tax.
