Kenya records 178 new cases of Covid-19,four more deaths

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,2ND SEPT 2020-Kenya on Wednesday recorded 178 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country’s total to 34,493.

This was after a sample of 3,474 was tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative tests to 459,562.

A statement by the Ministry of Health confirmed that five of the new cases were foreigners while 168 were Kenyans.

“Age wise, the youngest is a three-year old child, while the oldest is 77,” the statement read. A total of 110 of the cases were males and 68 were females.

Nairobi continues to lead in the daily positivity rate, recording 48 cases in the last 24 hours.

Other counties with new cases include; Kericho (24), Busia (22), Garissa (12),Kiambu (12), Kisii (10), Kisumu (9), Uasin Gishu (8), Nakuru (7), Embu 6, Bomet 4, Mombasa 3, Kitui, Machakos and Narok  had (2) cases each while Laikipia, Meru, Siaya, Isiolo, Makueni, Murang’a and Nyeri had (1) case each.

Another 238 patients have recovered from the disease, bringing  the total number of recoveries in the country so far to 20,449.

A total of 187 of those discharged were from the home-based programme, while 51 were discharged from various health facilities.

Number of fatalities rose to 581 after four more patients succumbed to the virus.

Meanwhile, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe appeared before the National Assembly Health Committee regarding the ongoing probe surrounding Covid-19 theft claims.

Kagwe said that the ministry will not protect anybody linked to irregularities.
