BY UPESI REPORTER,NAIROBI,12TH AUG 2020-The Nairobi County Assembly has advertised the vacant speaker position, a day after Beatrice Elachi resigned in a televised statement.
The Kenya constitution requires that the speaker be elected among persons who are not members of the County Assembly.
Therefore, members of the public who meet the qualifications; must be registered voters of proper morals and ethics and who have a post-secondary school qualification recognized in Kenya, are invited to apply.
Applicants will be required to fill in and sign nomination forms and attach a copy of their resumes.
The applications will then have to be hand-delivered to the office of the clerk of the County Assembly.
The notice on the dailies also warned those that have; been State Officers or other public officers, been members of the IEBC in the last 5 years, have not been Kenyan citizens for more than 10 years that they need not apply.
People who are undischarged from bankruptcy, those of unsound mind, those serving a sentence of more than 6 months and those who have been found guilty of abuse of public office have also been discouraged from applying.

Her deputy John Kamangu- the sitting Ruai MCA- took over the reins in acting capacity.
Kamangu and Elachi had previously faced opposition in the Assembly and have been accused of among other things; corruption, illegal appointments, victimization of MCAs and assembly staff, and militarization of the assembly.
Elachi had earlier in the month suspended plenary sittings at the assembl to September a day after she was notifed of her impending impeachment.
South B MCA Waithera Chege who had moved the impeachment motion said the impeachment would go on as Elachi had previously been suspended.
