Kenya records 667 new casesof COVID19, 311 recoveries, 11 deaths

BY KORIR JUM, 24TH JULY,2020-Kenya’s COVID-19 infections on Friday shot to 16,268 after 667 more patients were diagnosed with the disease from 5,075 samples tested within the last 24 hours.

The 667 new patients include 657 Kenyans and 10 foreigners, composed of 393 males and 274 females between one month old and 92 years of age.

The infections are spread across various counties namely; Nairobi (387), Kiambu (40), Mombasa (26), Machakos (47), Kajiado (79), Nakuru (15), Uasin Gishu (14), Garissa (11), Busia (9), Kilifi (6), Turkana (6), Makueni (5), Wajir (5), Kisumu (4), Nyeri (4), Lamu (4), Murang’a (2), Bomet (1), Bungoma (1), Narok (1), Nyamira (1), Vihiga (1).

The total number of recoveries also hit 7,446 as 311 patients recovered from the disease; with 166 of them under home-based and another 145 being discharged from various health facilities.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, speaking during the daily coronavirus briefings at Afya House, however announced that 11 patients also succumbed to the disease, taking the tally of fatalities to 274.

“We have observed that we’re witnessing a majority of the deaths in patients who have underlying issues such as diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS amongst others,” said the CAS.

“In Kenya today, out of all the HIV positive people who have been confirmed to be (COVID) positive, 96% of them are on life-saving treatment.”
