Kenya records the highest number ever of COVID19 at 796 in a single day

BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,23RD JULY 2020-Kenya has recorded the  highest number of COVID19 cases at 796 in the last 24 hours brining the total infections to  15,601.

Health Cabinet Administrative Secretary Dr Mercy Mwangangi said “this is the highest number we have ever recorded on a single day.”

“We continue to plead with Kenyans to take this matter seriously. Today we have 796 new cases,” she said.

89 per cent of the new infections are asymptomatic.

“And this tells you that everyone can get this disease,” she told a news briefing.

The death toll also rose to 263 after three more succumbed to the virus.

Dr Mwangangi said 378 patients were cleared after recovering from coronavirus, 199 on home-based care and 179 from various hospitals.

Three of the new cases are foreign nationals while the rest are Kenyans aged between 1 and 87-years-old.

In terms of gender, the new cases consist of 503 male and 293 with the Ministry of Health announcing that 99% of the new cases are asymptomatic.

The cases are distributed across the country as follows: Nairobi (539) Kiambu (63), Kajiado (37). Machakos (57), Migori (26), Kericho (15) ,Narok (11), Uasin Gishu (11), Nakuru (7), Busia (6), Mombasa (4), Kisii (3), Murang’a (2), Laikipia (9), and Siaya (2).

Embu, Kisumu, Nyeri and Transzoia have (1) case each.

Three patients have also succumbed to the coronavirus bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 263.
