BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,24TH JUNE,2020-Kenya has recorded 254 new cases of Covid-19 ,bringing the total number of infections in the country to 5,206.
The new cases emerged from 4, 859 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours. Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said Kenya’s cumulative tests now stand at 151, 361.
The CAS said a total of 41 patients have been discharged, raising number of coronavirus recoveries in the country to 1, 823.
However two more deaths were recorded raising the country’s fatalities to 130.
Dr. Mwangangi, speaking at Afya House during the daily COVID-19 briefings, said all the new patients are Kenyans composed of 186 males and 68 females.
Distribution of the new cases in terms of counties is as follows; Nairobi (127), Mombasa (36), Migori (29), Kajiado (22), Kiambu (12), Busia (9), Uasin Gishu (5), Muranga (3), Machakos and Kilifi, (2), cases each, Nakuru, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Isiolo, Kakamega, and Kisii, one (1) case each.
The Nairobi cases were recorded in various areas such as: Westlands (32), Dagoretti North (18), Lang’ata (16), Kamukunji (14), Embakasi East (12), Makadara (10), Embakasi South (8), Kasarani (4), Ruaraka (3), Starehe, Kibra, Embakasi North, and Embakasi Central (2), cases each,while Roysambu and Mathare, (1), case each.
In Mombasa, the 36 cases are from Mvita (11), Jomvu (8), Kisauni and Likoni (5) cases each, Changamwe (4), and Nyali (3).
All the 29 cases in Migori are from Suna East. In Kajiado, the 22 cases are from Kajiado Central, (18), Kajiado North, and Kajiado East (2) cases each.
In Kiambu, the 12 cases are from Thika and Kiambu Town (4) cases each, Kikuyu, (2), Kabete and Juja (1) case each.
In Machakos the two cases are in Athi River (1) and Matungulu (1). Kilifi has 2 cases in Rabai (1) and Kilifi South (1) while Nakuru has one case in Naivasha.
Siaya has one case in Bondo, Taita Taveta one case in Voi, and Garissa has one case in Garissa Town.
Isiolo has one case, Kakamega has one case in Lurambi and Kisii also has one case in Kisii Central.
Dr. Mwangangi also stated that 41 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries ti 1,823.
She further said the number of fatalities also rose to 130 after two more patients succumbed to the disease.
Nationally, according to figures released by Dr. Mwangangi, Nairobi Metropolitan area so far leads in the number of coronavirus cases at 2,428 followed by Mombasa at 1,304 and Busia with 361.
