BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,27TH MAY 2020-Kenya confirmed 123 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, marking the country’s highest number of infections recorded within 24 hours.
The new cases were recorded following the testing of 3,077 samples which is the largest sample size tested in the country since the outbreak of the disease, pushing the total number of cases to 1,471.
Out of the 123 cases, the bulk of the infections was recorded in Nairobi at 85 cases followed by Mombasa which registered 24 cases and Kiambu at 4.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe who addressed the press on stated that Nairobi’s Mathare and Kibra areas had registered alarming numbers at 33 and 14 respectively.
Embakasi North had 12 cases while Embakasi Central had four cases followed by other regions.
At the same time, three more patients have succumbed to the coronavirus disease raising the total number of fatalities in the country to 55.
Two of the three deceased persons were suffering from diabetes while the other was battling breast cancer.
Of the 123 new patients, the youngest is one-year old.
