BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,18TH MAY 2020-Twenty-five more patients have tested positive for Covid-19 in Kenya raising the total number of coronavirus cases in Kenya to 912.
The new patients — 23 Kenyans and two Somali nationals — were confirmed following the testing of 1,139 samples over the last 24 hours.
In a press briefing on Monday, Health Ministry CAS Dr. Rashid Aman further announced that there were 53 truck drivers who had tested positive for Covid-19 at the various points of entry on Kenya-Tanzania border.
They included 51 Tanzanians and two Burundi nationals and were all referred back to Tanzania.
The distribution of the cases by counties is as follows: Kajiado (6), Mombasa (5), Nairobi (3), Kiambu (3), Kwale (3), Taita Taveta (2), Garissa (2) and Meru (1).
“Meru, Taita Taveta and Garissa are new counties to be infected with the disease, bringing to 23 the number of counties that are now affected by the disease,” said Dr. Aman.
The number of recoveries also rose to 336 after 22 more patients were discharged while the number of fatalities remains at 50.
In Kajiado all the six cases are truck drivers who tested postive at Namanga while in Mombasa four cases were from Likoni and one Nyali.
The three positive cases in Nairobi were from Githurai 44, Kawangware and Starehe.
In Kiambu, the three cases are in Kiambu Town (2) and Githurai 45 one case.
In Kwale all the three cases are truck drivers at Lungalunga border. The same case applies to Taita taveta with the two cases being truck drivers who were tested at Voi.
The two cases in Garissa cases are both from Daadab Refugee camp; One (1) at Ifc and the other at Dagahaley while in Meru the one case is from Buuri.
