Govt confirms 16 more Covid-19 cases brings the total number to 142

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,5TH APRIL,2020-The government on Sunday confirmed 16 more cases of corona virus .The announcement was made by Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi .This now brings the country’s total number to 138.   15 of these are Kenyans while one is a Nigerian national.

Dr. Mwangangi further noted that out of the 16 new cases, 12 had been confirmed in Nairobi, three in Mombasa and one in Kilifi.

The new cases include nine males and seven females and are all aged between 22 to 66 years.

The Health Ministry further revealed that as of Sunday, 1,833 contacts had been monitored, with 1,384 of them being discharged.

She further announced that persons who pass away due to the coronavirus will have to be buried within 24 hours from the time of death, with the burials being restricted to less than 15 family members.

So far, four patients among them a 6-year-old boy have succumbed to the coronavirus in Kenya.

The CS announced new measures to curb the Covid-19 spread urging any person visiting a supermarket or any other open-air markets to begin wearing a mask immediately.

The CS said the Ministry of Health has operationalised the Kenyatta University Hospital and already 20 Covid-19 patients have been admitted.

He announced the country’s laboratories, particularly Kemri, are already involved in serious research that would see Kenya manufacturer testing kits locally.
