Govt assures Kenyans that there is no single case of corona virus in the country

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,2ND MARCH,2020-The government has assured  the public that the are no reported cases of the deadly coronavirus after a viral recording purporting to be a press briefing confirming cases of the disease in Kenya.

Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna in a statement , termed the recording as “alarmist, inciteful and its sole purpose is to cause fear and spread panic to the public.”

“The Government has noted with serious concern the spreading of fake news about COVID-19 in the country. One of the fake news is an audio clip doing rounds in digital and social media of a purported press briefing on COVID-19,” reads the statement.

“This fake news is alarmist, inciteful and its sole purpose is to cause fear and spread panic to the public. The public is advised to ignore these fake rumours and only respond to statements from formal Government channels.”

Mr. Oguna stressed that there is no reported case of the novel coronavirus that has killed over 3,000 people worldwide, majority being in mainland China. There have been more than 88,000 global cases.

“As communicated earlier, the government has put in place measures to monitor and screen all passengers transiting through or originating from countries with reported outbreaks of COVID-19,” he added.

Colonel Oguna also said investigations are underway and those behind the public scare will be arrested and charged.
