BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,7TH JAN,2020-Self-styled National Resistant Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna was blocked from boarding a connecting flight to Nairobi from Germany Tuesday, due to a red alert issued by the Kenya government when he was deported in 2018.
Miguna told HOT 96FM that he had been stopped by Lufthansa airline officials boarding the flight to Nairobi where he was scheduled to arrive at 9.25pm.
“I am at the Lufthansa Check-In and they are saying the Kenyan security has blocked me from entering Kenya,” Miguna said, after the Kenyan Immigration Department announced it would honour a court order to facilitate Miguna’s entry.
He also claimed that the Kenyan government had “demanded that Lufthansa should not fly me into any other African country, either.”
“Lufthansa flight manager is saying that the Government of Kenya must send official communication to Lufthansa at Frankfurt office before I can be allowed to fly to Kenya or any other African country,” he said.
When contacted for comment, Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna said, “the government position has not changed, the Immigration Department said it is ready to facilitate his entry at JKIA, but if there are issues he is facing outside our boundaries, that is something that will be dealt with by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
Miguna was deported over the swearing-in of NASA leader Raila Odinga, which he presided over at Uhuru Park, following a repeat Presidential election in which Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner. He was also accused of trying to mobilise Kenyans into a revolution, state officials said at the time.
In a statement issued soon after the High Court ordered government officials to ensure Miguna is facilitated, Immigration Department Director-General Alexander Muteshi said will not be barred.
“This is to confirm that in compliance with court orders issued on December 14, 2018, the Directorate will facilitate Dr Miguna’s entry into Kenya,” Muteshi said.
On boarding Air Canada, Miguna tweeted, “Freedom comes out of focus, determination, discipline and fearlessness!”
On Monday, the High Court has ordered the government not to bar Miguna when he lands at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday.
