BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,7TH JAN,2020-Members of the Nairobi County Assembly will on Thursday hold a special sitting to deliberate on the leadership situation in the county after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who is facing graft charges was barred from office.

Speaking after a 5-hour long Speaker’s Kamukunji, Speaker Beatrice Elachi said she convened the sitting in order to institute measures geared to oversee resumption of normalcy in the capital county.

“There will be a special sitting on Thursday where we shall bring motion to create an ad-hoc committee to oversee resumption to normalcy of services in the county Government, “she said.

The move, she says it is meant to avert a crisis, since the Governor has since been barred from office, pending hearing and determination of a multi-million shillings graft case.

Tens of senior officers had been suspended by the Governor in his characteristic style that dotted his controversial leadership.

“We have agreed all staff from the county government who were suspended and on full pay to return back to their offices,” Elachi said.

She further noted the informality used to suspend the officials through social media (whatsapp) is not usual, “it is not usual labor practice to suspend staff using whatsapp forum and still maintain them on full pay, “she said.

The speaker divulged to pronounce herself as Deputy Governor Position in line with the jubilee party and law once they resume from recess.

According to Elachi the parties represented in the Nairobi Assembly will on Wednesday hold Kamukunji to discuss all the issues affecting the county ahead of he special sitting on Thursday which will give more direction.
