BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,11TH DEC 2019-Besieged Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has finally been allowed to go home after paying a cash bail of Ksh.15 million as directed by anti corruption court judge Douglas Ogoti .
Governor Sonko, who spent the last five days in police custody, left the Milimani Law Courts at around 8pm together with his lawyers.
The Governor, alongside 11 others including Nairobi County Government officials, is facing 19 corruption related charges over irregular procurement and payment of over Ksh.357 million.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted a bond of Ksh.30 million with a surety of similar amount or Ksh.15 million cash bail.
Sonko was, however, barred from accessing office which includes executing the Governor’s functions.
Magistrate Ogoti directed that should there be need to access the county offices, the accused should be escorted by investigating officers.
He further ordered that Sonko refrain from commenting on the case on social media.
The magistrate additionally ordered the Governor and his co-accused are to deposit their passports and other travel documents in court.
