Imran Okoth officially begins his task as Kibra legislature after been sworn in

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,19TH NOV 2019-Kibra MP-elect Bernard Otieno Okoth was sworn in on Tuesday following his win during the by-election on November 7.

He took the oath at the rise of the House in a ceremony presided over by Speaker Justin Muturi.

The lawmaker was in the company of Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch and his nominated counterpart Maina Kamanda.

Imran gannered 24, 636 votes  to win against 23 other contestants.

Jubilee’s candidate McDonald Mariga came in second with 11, 230 votes while Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC candidate  Eliud Owalo came in third with 5, 275 votes.

Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya candidate  Khamisi Butichi was a distance fourth with 260 votes.

The total votes cast was 41, 984 against a registered number 118, 658 votes representing a 35.38% voter turnout.

ODM party leader Raila Odinga expressed gratitude to Kibra residents for overwhelmingly voting for Imran.

A by-election was called after the demise of  Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer in July this year.
