BY  NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,26TH AUG 2019-Matatu owners have launched a new system that will enable them  monitor activities of the vehicles in real time. The system dubbed  Mobitill sends data captured in real time and can relay the same information to whoever has installed the same .

Data Integrated CEO, Mary Mwangi says  the solution would enhance revenue for matatu owners while protecting passengers from unauthorized fare hikes.

Public Service Vehicles come in handy for a huge population of Kenyans who cannot afford private means.

For this reason, most Kenyans across the country depend on PSVs as their sole means of transport.

Mwangi says various challenges such as unplanned schedules at different termini, cash transactions between passengers, operators and Matatu Saccos’ managers has crippled operations in the industry.

City Shuttle Company CEO, Martin Kiragu, on the other hand has lauded the system as a game changer given that passengers will be able to get value for their money whenever they use public transport.

ICT experts together with players in the PSV sector want the government and county governments to leverage on technological to solve challenges that both operators and passengers face within the public transport sector.

This comes as Nairobi  city county  readies to launch modern  high capacity bus to help in solving  the menace of congestion that has been a big problem   in the CBD .
