Two suspects who jumped out of moving police vehicle arraigned

BY ANN MUNENE,NAIROBI,8TH JULY 2019-Two robbery with violence suspects   who were caught having jumped out of a moving police vehicle  last Saturday were on Monday arraigned in court  and charged with escaping lawful custody.

The two are among 19 suspects facing robbery with violence charges in different courts including Ruiru, Thika and Murang’a.

The court was told  that Amos Wanyoike Wanjiru and James Kamau allegedly jumped out of a prison lorry while being driven to Nairobi Area Remand and Allocation Prison in Industrial Area on Friday. They were however later rearrested in a nearby bush.

Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku, the duo denied the charges.

Kamukunji DCI sought to have the suspects denied bail stating that they are likely to abscond trial.

The matter will be mentioned on July 10, 2019.

Police officers  Michael Njuguna, John Macharia and Zacharia Keya who were escorting the suspects have since recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
