BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,4TH JULY 2019-Brian Bera, an engineering student at the Jomo Kenyatta university of Agricultural and Techonology (JKUAT)accused of jumping over the State House fence armed with a knife, has been freed.
Bera was releasedon Thursday on a personal bond of Ksh 100 thousand by Magistrate Francis Andayi .
However Bera was freed on condition that his father would take care of him in Eldoret, where, he would be undergoing treatment.
Bera did however not take plea. The court set the date for plea taking on August 7, 2019 when the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital will have issued his medical report.
This comes just a day after the student had pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta and the court to forgive him for intruding State House citing that he would never repeat the mistake.
“I have a problem and I have suffered staying in police cells, I will never repeat those mistakes. I plead with President Kenyatta and Kenyans to forgive me,” he appealed.
His familly through Bera’s father, David Bera, requested the court to allow him take his son to hospital.
“It might take a long time for him to recover. Detaining him in police custody will not help his condition,” he had noted.
He told the court that on various occasions, Bera had walked long distances due to his medical condition.
“He left our home in Kitale and walked to a place known as Lortum in West Pokot, in January 2018,” Bera’s father noted.
