Tragic: Two die as boat capsizes in Migori

BY CORRESPONDENT,MIGORI,9TH JUNE,2019-Two people have died after the boat they were in capsized on Sunday morning while crossing River Kuja at Konyuna village, Uriri Sub County, Migori County.

The deceased who were identified as  Michael Otieno Gor and Joseph Aloo, were on their way to Ndhiwa when the boat capsized at the middle of River Kuja. The captain howver  survived the incident.

A brother to the deceased Mr. Charles Odhiambo Gor, Michael Otieno Gor who was to be on the ill-fated boat said the three who were on board including the captain were in the middle of the river when the boat capsized killing the two.

Mr. Odhiambo, who was waiting for the boat to pick him after the two had crossed the river says he watched helplessly as the two were being swept away by water.

He says the captain of the boat appeared to have sensed danger since when the waters hit the boat he jumped into the river and swum successfully.

Mr. Odhiambo says they were from a church meeting in Konyuna village when the incident occurred.

The incident was confirmed by West Kawere Sub-location Chief Alex Odongo who said a search for the two bodies is ongoing.
