BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,23RD MAY 2019-Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has obtained an anticipatory bail of Ksh.500,000 in a bid to secure his release after he was arrested on Thursday by anti-graft detectives.
The bail was granted by Magistrate Bryan Khaemba who directed that the orders be served to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) upon which the Governor is expected to be released.
“Any party served with this order and disobeys the same or any part thereof shall be guilty of contempt of court and liable to fine or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both,” reads the order.
Governor Waititu was arrested on Thursday morning at his home in Runda, Nairobi.
The arrest came a few hours after EACC detectives raided his two other homes in Garden Estate and another near Paradise Lost on Kiambu Road.
Waititu is in trouble over alleged irregular tenders worth Ksh.588 million and money laundering.
A statement from EACC said the Kiambu Governor is suspected of awarding tenders to companies associated with him and members of his immediate family.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, search operations were conducted by EACC on May 23, 2019 in the homes and offices of the Kiambu County Governor, his family members, directors of private companies and ten senior employees of the county government,” the statement reads.
