Samuel Chebole ,Beatrice Chebet clinches U20 National Cross Country title in male and female categories respectively

BY CORRESPONDENT,ELDORET,23RD FEB 2019-North Rift’s Samuel Chebole and Beatrice Chebet won the Under-20 National Cross Country Championships women’s 8km and 6 km in the male and female categories respectively at the Eldoret Sports Club on Saturday. It was Chebole who first crossed the finishing line having stayed ahead of the rest from the second lap to the finish line.

He clocked 24:09.8 ahead of Emmanuel Kiprotich who came timed 24:17.7 for second place while World Under-20 3,000m steeplechase silver medallist Leonard Bett finished third in 24:25.0.

Chebole attributed his win to thorough training through the guidance of his elder brother Ronald Kwemoi – who specialises in 1500m.

“I want to thank my brother Kwemoi who helped me in training and even encouraged earlier today before I left for the race,” said Chebole, who is representing the North Rift region.

After the events Athletes to represent Kenya in the World Cross Country Championships to be held in Aarhus, Denmark on March 30 will be selected.

Following the sterling performance Chebet is sure to be included in Team Kenya for the World Cross Country Championships set for Denmark on March 30
