Family Mark 25 years since the demise of First vice president Jaramagi Oginga Odinga

BY CORRESPONDENT,BONDO,20TH JAN 2019-Nyamira ACK Church in Bondo was a beehive of activities on Sunday after the family of Kenya’s first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga held a special commemorative service to mark 25 years since his death which occurred on January 20, 1994.

After the service the family member among them Jaramogi’s son Raila Odinga and leaders present proceeded to the Jaramaogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum where they llaid the wreath.

Among key figures at that event was Mr Muhoho Kenyatta, the President’s younger brother who graced the ceremony. The Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o who is the host of this year’s ceremony is still under the doctors observation having been admitted to Nairobi Hospital after he fell Ill. Prof Nyong’o fell ill during the installation of Kisumu Archdiocese Archbishop Philip Anyollo last week.

The ceremony has been pushed to allow him recover since he is one of the orginizers. The Kisumu governor was airlifted to Nairobi for what doctors at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu termed as ‘conclusive tests’.

The official ceremony to remember Oginga Odinga is normally organized and hosted by the family and graced by prominent personalities.

The memorial is usually held on January 20 in Bondo, Siaya County.

But this year, the family said it will be held in Kisumu to mark “quarter century” since his death.
