BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,11TH OCT 2018-Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji on Thursday directed Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett to launch investigation into the Fort Ternan bus crash that led to the loss of 56 lives.
In a letter dated October 11, 2018, DPP Haji directed that the
investigations cover all government agencies responsible for road
“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Article 157 (4) of
the Constitution of Kenya, I hereby direct that you cause investigation
into the matter to determine the persons who may have, through acts of
commission or omission, contributed directly or indirectly into the
occurrence of the same,” wrote Haji.
“The investigation should be extended to cover all agencies of the
government charged with the responsibility of ensuring safety on our
roads as well as the owners of the subject motor vehicle.”
The DPP further directed IG Boinett to submit the file after
completion of investigations to his office “for appropriate directions.”
The court had on Thursday ordered the detention of two suspects pending a ruling on Friday after police requested to be granted seven more days to complete investigations into the Kericho accident.
Molo Chief Magistrate Samuel Wahome directed that Bernard Ishindu, owner of Home Boys bus registered under Western express Sacco and Cleophas Shimanyula alias Toto be remanded at Londiani Police Station.
