BY NAMULONGO PETER,7TH OCT 2018-Bungoma senator and FORD KENYA Leader Moses Wetangula has accused ODM leader Raila Odinga saying that his (Raila) push for constitutional changes are meant to benefit his future in politics.
Speaking on Sunday, Wetangula said that they will not allow Raila to use referendum as a way of creating a position that will benefit him.
“We are aware that some leaders including ODM leader Raila Odinga are hurriedly pushing for the constitutional changes to create positions that will benefit them but we are not going to allow this to happen,” said Wetangula.
He was accompanied by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, who said that “The constitution of Kenya is neither a preserve nor a property of politicians…” and that Kenyans have the mandate to change it or not.
“We must give them (Kenyans) the opportunity to decide what to be changed,” said Mudavadi.
He also challenged the church to educate Kenyans on the current state of the country.
“We have seen people loot public funds and donate to church during fund raising, yet the clergy cannot question where the money is coming from, we have become accomplice to stolen goods,” he said.
The two NASA leaders called for change in the electoral body before the country movies on with the referendum bid, arguing that Kenyans have no confidence in IEBC.
“How can we trust IEBC when judges found the agency to have bungled the elections? We want it reconstituted before it is allowed to oversee the referendum,” said Mr Mudavadi
Other leaders present were Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa and ANC secretary General Barrack Muluka.
