BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,23RD SEPT,2018– Kariobangi Sharks have proofed powerful for Ulinzi Stars in this year’s shield cup seminal beating them 4-1 at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani on Sunday 23 September.this means that sharks have qualified for the final of the tournament for a second year consecutively
This was a repeat of the 2016 semifinal meeting played at Afraha Stadium which Ulinzi Stars won 4-1. Heading to this clash, both sides were oozing with confidence have beaten Kenyan giants AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia in their League ties.
It will be recalled that Ulinzi Stars beat Gor Mahia 2-0 at Machakos Stadium while AFC Leopards had suffered a 3-0 loss to Sharks at the same venue. Against Ulinzi, Sharks started off strongly and managed to get the opening goal through former Mathare United star Duke Abuya.
The goal seemed to destabilize Ulinzi as they became shaky at the back allowing Sharks to penetrate more. Sharks continued to pile pressure on Ulinzi and it paid off as they netted the second goal 10 minutes later.
Harrison Mwendwa managed to pick out Shaphan Oyugi and midfielder found the back of the net to put Ulinzi Stars in more pressure in the opening quarter.
Four minutes later Ulinzi Stars were caught napping again and miscommunication at the back saw Timothy Odhiambo collide with his defenders and left Eric Kapaito with the easy time of sending the ball in the net for 3-0 lead.
In the second half, it was Kapaito who put the final nail on Ulinzi’s coffin adding the fourth goal while Ulinzi Stars got the consolation goal through Cliff Kasuti at the 90th minute.
Sharks will now face the winner of the clash against AFC Leopards and Sofapaka in the finals
