BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,22ND SEPT,2018-In what looks like reclaiming the image of Pumwani maternity hospital ,Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has announced that the Hospital will now be known as Sonko Pumwani Women’s Hospital & College of Nursing & Midwifery.
Sonko made the announcement through his social media pages.He stated that the move follows a deal with two hospitals.
“I’m happy to announce a new partnership deal with Agha Khan University Hospital & Nairobi West Hospital to transform Pumwani Maternity Hospital. Open link for more details of the upcoming new Sonko Pumwani Women’s Hospital & College of Nursing & Midwifery,” Sonko said on Friday evening.
The Governor recently visited the hospital and reportedly discovered that Pumwani lacks proper equipment and enough staff to cater to pregnant women.
Sonko apparently found 12 bodies of infants in boxes hidden inside one of the rooms at the hospital.
A section of Senators and members of the Nairobi County Assembly later threatened to impeach him over the saga that cast aspersions.
A day later, Sonko posted pictures of coolers being delivered to the facility, equipment that were allegedly a personal donation
