BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,19TH SEPT,2018-Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo risks jail should the court find that he has not been able to pay Ksh 25 million shillings he owes businessman Bryan Yongo. This follows his arrest on Tuesday night.
The former legislature appeared in court earlier on Tuesday with the court intending to rule whether he will be released on bond this afternoon.
Police made the arrest on Tuesday night following orders issued by High Court Deputy Registrar Elizabeth Tanui.
Mr Jirongo is required to show cause he should not be jailed for failing to settle the debt.
But the former presidential candidate on Wednesday told the court that of the initial debt of Sh18 million, he has already paid Sh24 million.
He said he needed time to file papers showing that he has actually been paying.
However Yongo on his part opposed his release, saying the former legislator has failed to honour previous promises.
yongo says Jirongo has not been faithful in honoring the previous agreements on the same issue despite having made the commitment in court.
