BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,18TH SEPT,2018-The National Super Alliance NASA has announced that it will back the 16% VAT reduction bill once presented to parliament.
Addressing the press at Orange house In Nairobi on Tuesday John Mbadi says the decision was made by all members of the coalition .The announcement was made following the meeting that was chaired by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
This means that president Uhuru Kenyatta’s suggestions on the financial bill 2018 that 16% VAT being implemented on petroleum products be reduced to 8% is as good as the passed.
Initially the two sides planned to Meet with Jubilee members of parliament Meeting at state house in Nairobi while NASA met at Orange house.
The objective behind the meeting though was seen as if the two sides could have puled on different sides with those in the opposition thinking that NASA will reject the proposal in totality while Jubilee since it is the president’s party it was obvious that it was going to endorse.
But the support from NASA is conditional with the coalition saying that it will support 8% VAT on petroleum products for 1 year, during which govt must ensure the country lives within its means.
However with the position taken by NASA it is already done.
