BY SAMSON MBII,NAIROBI,8TH SEPT 2018-Kenyan soccer national team Harambee Stars will host Ghana’s Black Stars Today (Saturday September 8)in a second round group F 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier the match to be staged at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani starting 4pm EAT.
Kenya is pregnant with expectations from this match which is must win.It must also be remembered that both Nations head to the game with different mindsets; Kenya is desperate to reverse its fortunes having gone down 2-1 to host Sierra Leone in June 2017 during its opening game as Ghana seeks a second win to add on to a 5-0 flattening of Ethiopia in another Group F encounter about the same time.
Can Kenya pull it off and spot big boys Ghana or will the visitors, four-time African champions, sail on and put one foot in the next African Cup of Nations finals to be hosted by Cameroon in June 2019?
Word from the archives is Kenya has little chance to break a Ghana side that has set all sorts of firsts over time. Notwithstanding, and football being what it is, Ghana could pay the ultimate price for dwelling on the form book, rather than on the game in the field.
The two sides have faced off ten times – including twice in Olympic qualifiers (U23) with Ghana winning seven of the ties and Kenya just one. The other two have been scoring draws.
Of the ten games, five have been on Kenyan soil where Ghana has picked three wins and gone on to draw the other two. It has to be mentioned that not all ten games are considered as full international games.
