KRA partners with London School of Economics to offer prestigious diplomacy training

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NEWSDESK,NAIROBI,21ST AUG 2018-The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has partnered with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to offer an executive programme in economic diplomacy.
TheLondon School of Economics is one of the top institutions globally in Economics,
Fiscal Policy and related areas like Economic Diplomacy.
The programme is run by Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KESRA),KRA’s premier institution which specialises in training on tax and customs administration.
The executive programme which kicked off
on Monday 20th August, at a Naivasha hotel is a postgraduate level programme tailored for experts, professionals and
bureaucrats who engage in international negotiations of treaties, agreements and other instruments of diplomacy.
The programme will equip more than 25 participants with requi site knowledge and
skills in economic diplomacy.
The participants are drawn from key government
agencies that represent Kenya on the negotiating table during trade and
treaty negotiations.
Amongst the participants are officials from KRA, the office of the Attorney General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of East African Community and the Ministry of Trade, Industrialisation and Cooperatives.
The success of this programme will subsequently place Kenya on a better vantage position in negotiating international trade treaties as well as other international negotiations.
The programme further aims at giving Kenya a better bargaining power in diplomatic negotiations.
With qualified and well trained negotiators, the chances of a country’s way of being heard when lobbying internationally
are evry high and this gives a nation like Kenya or any other represented nation
value globally.
Among the topics to be covered during the training include analytical tools for
economic diplomats, the practice of economic diplomacy with a key focus on actors and process, understanding a negotiating partner, and multilevel (or multifora )economic diplomacy.
Over the years, economic diplomacy has become an invincible pillar which supports
the economy of many nations across the
globe.
The economy of world super powers such as the US, Japan and China is foundedon economic diplomacy.
Discussions are underway between KESRA and LSE to explore the feasibility of regular
trainings on economic diplomacy every year.
