BY PSCU/KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,14TH AUG 2018-In order to stamp out the never ending corruption cases in the National Youth Service (NYS) ,the president Uhuru Kenya has ordered restructuring of the institution.
The president at the same time gave firm instructions to the newly appointed Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs Dr. Francis Otieno Owino to ensure that the agency is streamlined.
Mr. Kenyatta said NYS was never meant to be a conduit for enriching a few individuals but an initiative to empower and change the lives of millions of young Kenyans.
The Head of State directed the new PS to resolve all financial and administrative bottlenecks at NYS that prevents it from fulfilling its mandate.
Key among the proposed changes is the establishment of an oversight board which will effectively make NYS a body corporate with a Director General as the Chief Executive Officer.
The organisation has previously been plagued with scandals involving millions of shillings, leading to the firing and arraignment of high ranking government officials.
The president spoke at State House, Nairobi where he witnessed the swearing-in of both Dr. Owino and Mrs. Esther Koimett who takes over as the new PS for Transport.
