BY CORRESPONDENT,NAIVASHA,25TH JULY 2018-Journalists have been asked to be on the front line in creating awareness on the need to guard resources meant for climate change.
According to Psamson Nzioki from transparency international Kenya climate change resources especially donor funds have been misused in the country because there is little awareness about the resources available”.Many people are able to steal cash meant for climate change mitigation measures because nobody really talks about it”.He said.
Addressing journalists attending climate change,Climate Governance and reporting in Naivasha on Wednesday ,Nzioki said billion of shillings have been misappropriated at the expense of climate change mitigation measures.
He has also urged the media to be proactive in reporting issues to do with climate change.
On his part Fredrick Ouma also from Transparency international Kenya has said that time has come for the country to embrace other ways of live apart from those which have been there and are known to have adverse effects on the environment.He says activities like fishing ,charcoal burning as well as cultivation along contours should be under check going forward.
He has also called upon stakeholders in the climate change sectors to come up laws and policies that will help in climate change mitigation measures.
