BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,16TH JULY 2018-Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has appointed Engineer Jared Omondi Otieno as acting Managing Director at Kenya Power following the prosecution of Ken Tarus .
Keter says the appointment was made following a day-long meeting by the Kenya Power Board to bridge the gap left by the arrest and prosecution of the officials.
On the other hand Ambrose Lemaon will take over as the General Manager in charge of Finance while Joyce Awinja will handle Supply Chain Management.
Others named are Charles Ng’eno Internal Audit, Peter Waweru Njenga who will manage the Street Lighting Department among others.
This comes just hours after 14 individuals denied charges of the irregular acquisition of faulty transformers.
They include former Managing Director Ben Chumo.
The accused were charged with conspiracy to defraud the parastatal of over Sh409 million.
Chumo and co-accused persons have denied fraudulently acquiring the amount for the supply of substandard transformers by Muwa Trading Company.
The officials have also been accused of aiding fraudulent acquisition of Sh202 million as payment for the supply of the transformers.
While making the announcement Keter has urged the director of public prosecution to use humane ways in arresting graft suspects.He has expressed reservation on the manner in which the officials facing charges were handled .”Arresting people at night is not the best way to do it,one can be given a call to present themselves where they are needed.” he said.
