WC 2018: Match Day 21 Preview

BY SAMSON MBII,NAIROBI,6TH JULY 2018- The World Cup 2018 continues today with two mouth watering quarterfinal matches lined up.

Uruguay take on France in the first match from 5PM while Brazil and Belgium will battle out from 9PM.

Uruguay vs France – 5PM

This promises to be a very interesting contest as both teams possess great talents in their squads. Uruguay bundled out Portugal courtesy of an Edison Cavani brace but the striker suffered a muscle problem and has missed several training sessions. Luis Suarez is expected to turn up in case Cavani misses the match. France on the other end beat Argentina to qualify for the quarters but it is youngster Kylin Mbappe who stole the show with his terrifying pace and direct style of play. They now face an Uruguay side that is very disciplined defensively having just conceded once, against Portugal and this could be their first real test. France have not been really solid at the back and they conceded three goals against Argentina.

Brazil vs Belgium

Arguably the biggest match of the day, former champions Brazil face a vastly improved Belgium side that is trophy hungry.

Belgium came from 2 goals down to beat a very hardworking Japan and qualify while Brazil easily edged out Mexico 2-0 to qualify. Brazil seem to be improving as the tournament goes on and have been very solid at the back.

They are however yet to meet a side as talented as Belgium; Eden Hazard and Lukaku will definitely threaten the Brazil backline that welcomes back Marcelo after two matches out due to a back problem.

It will be remembered that Belgium conceded also conceded two against Tunisia in the group stage and they cannot afford the luxury of a comeback against Brazil that has Neymar starting to regain his shape and in form Philipe Coutinho.

Brazil will also be without a key figure in Casemiro who is suspended but Fernadinho is expected to cover up the void.
