BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,28TH JUNE 2018-President Uhuru Kenyatta says that if investigations proof capability of his brother Muhoho as having a hand in importation of contraband sugar he has to carry his own cross and face consequences .This is the most recent statement from the president who in the recent past has taken a firm position in fighting graft.
Muhoho’s name cropped up on Monday during hearings of a joint parliamentary committee probing the importation of excess sugar into the country after the government suspended taxes on the commodity last year.
“I have been quiet all this time because I have full confidence in institutions. Let’s not politicise this fight. If my brother is involved aendelee tu,” he added. translated, aendelee tu means “let him continue doing so”.
Speaking at an economic summit organised by the American Chamber of Commerce at the UN complex in Gigiri, Nairobi, on Thursday, the Head of State said if his brother broke the law he should not be spared.
On Tuesday, Aldai MP Cornelius Serem claimed Muhoho’s company, Protech Investment Limited, had imported about 180,000 metric tonnes of brown sugar into the country.
Mr Serem, angered by the failure of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to show up for grilling over the dirty sugar imports, also alleged a plot to shield the younger Kenyatta from investigations.
