BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,21ST JUNE 2018-Kenya Bureau of Standards has denied reports of Impounded Sugar containing Mercury.KEBS Chief Executive Officer Charles Ongwae says the samples taken from the sugar for testing turned out negative.
Appearing before the parliamentary committee on Trade on Thursday,Ongwae said that any other laboratory was welcome to undertake the same test just to confirm their finding. He says the samples were also taken to the government laboratory which also confirmed the same.
However the Committee chair Kanini Kega sought to know more especially after the revelations which were made by interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi and the directorate of criminal investigations who insists that the samples were found to have the Mercury traces.
KEBS statement now complicates the issue even further. It comes a day after industrialization Cabinet secretary Aden Muhamed also said the sugar does not have Mercury or copper as earlier reported.
