BY CORRESPONDENT,MOMBASA,18TH JUNE 2018-The Orange democratic movement (ODM) is not under threat from any political party or politician.
This is the words of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Addressing the national executive council meeting in Mombasa on Monday,ODM says the meeting was called to take stock of what has happened in the country politically considering that it was a major party in the country.
He down played reports in a section of the press that the recent pronouncement by ODM leaders at the coast that they will back deputy president William Ruto come 2022 general elections was the reason for the meeting.
In recent days the deputy president has made trips to several coastal counties which always see some politicians allied to ODM promise to support him. However according to Odinga that doesn’t shake them at all.”ODM is united and it has never been united like it is now ever before..we are not under any fear”.He said.
His sentiments were shared also by ODM vice chair Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who says the most important issue before members was to chart way forward on how to strengthen the party.”We are not in any firefights here, our main concern is to solidify ourselves in readness for the 202 election”.said Joho.
Joho also said the party will have a presidential candidate come 2022 and that was not negotiable.
Odinga has also said he was ready for a lifestyle audit as ordered by president Uhuru Kenyatta in a move to curb corruption.
However Odinga cast his fears on the local auditors saying they may not be in a position to do a good job and may easily be compromised.
He has rooted for external auditors asking president Kenyatta to get auditors from outside the country if war on corruption and if auditing of public officials will bear fruits.
The two day meeting is been held at Flamingo hotel.Coastal region is considered an ODM stronghold.
